Just as this other submission: http://bugguide.net/node/view/705508, the ones I found mating also do not have the "arms". These photos are also in Florida.

most certainly --great find, Karen --and a Fla. endemic, too!
i must add that the ID credit goes to Mike Thomas whom i e-mailed yesterday; here's what he had to say: "I'd have to say D. barberi for both of those. We have only about 7 of that species in the collection [FSCA -v] and hundreds of D. guttata. Of that latter, almost ALL have the black humeral 'arms.' Of the few that don't, the 'arms' are clearly opaque and distinct from the transparent parts of the elytra. In D. barberi, the arms are completely absent."

so please please please keep an eye out for them!
