Slavemaker ants? - Formica rubicunda

Slavemaker ants? - Formica rubicunda
Hammond, Ontario, Canada
July 20, 2013
Size: about 8 mm
We found this 2' by 2' nest in a field by our house this afternoon. I was hoping someone could help with an ID. Thanks.

Moved
Well done, Ben, on both parasite and host spp. ID's!
(There is some possibility that the slave-maker is F.*pergandei, but it donesn't look shiny enough in this image.)

Thanks
to everyone for the IDs. Just yesterday, the ants from this nest raided a nest beside our vegetable garden. I was able to follow their trail across the garden and through the grass to their nest which is about 115 feet away. Amazing.

Moved from ID Request.

Formica sanguinea group and F. fusca group
The red ones are a species from the Formica sanguinea species group, while the black host workers are Formica fusca group. The sanguinea group workers raid colonies of other species of Formica and steal pupae to increase the worker population of their own colony. Perhaps F. rubicunda and F. glacialis, but wait for James.
