This would be the western subspecies 'upioides' acc'd to Lindroth.

so Lindroth is lumping this bug with "sculptilis" ?...hmmm.
if I had a better camera id take a close-up of the elytra of this bug and of my 'sculptilis' from Arkansas...big difference...also the characters of pronotum and mandibles don't seem to match.
Since im not a Carabid taxonomist... what do I know ???
