Great Find
Bill a great find for Long Island. In recent years the only places this species has been found on LI are Montauk, Amagansett & Shelter Island. I had one in Sag Harbor last week.

Are you monitoring moths in Baiting Hollow? If so, I would love to talk with you. My e-mail is hdmcguinness@gmail.com.

Nice find! Long Island is perhaps the last refuge for nominate Eacles imperialis in NY (the "subspecies" pini is widespread in the northern half of the state), so this is a great record to have on BugGuide. I'm not quite sure if this species has been recently reported from the northern shore of LI, so this record may be doubly significant. I will contact Hugh McGuinness to see what he has to say about your sighting.

We're glad it's a significant find in this area! Thanks for letting us know!!

Thanks!
Thank you for responding so quickly! My daughter, who took the photos, will be so happy to know! She's sharing photos of it on her Facebook page. Thanks again!
