i have been trying to get a good picture of one of these for a while... it's head looks like that of a Crabronid wasp. if another picture is needed, i did find one that had been caught by a Phidippus, and took some pictures of it in my hand.

From the male shield this appears to be C. tumidus from Bohart's drawings.

thanks Herschel, do you have Bohart's key, or did you find it on the internet... i have been looking for it for a while.

 
Key
Arrived today from a small bookstore in Germany. I had been watching for one to pop up for awhile. The drawings are superb and the 30 year old paper was in pristine unopened condition. Looking at it now. Will add info to the Crabro section of my wasp list.

i thought it was a Crabronid wasp, i guess if i had looked through the pictures already on the site i would have found this. thank you for the ID Dr. Ascher.
