Tarantula Hawk doing... - Pepsis

Absolutely

Wonderful photo. This is the time of year that the Pepsis wander up toward my state from Texas. Though I have never seen them take a Tarantula here. Currently the tarantulas are on the move, showing up on porches and driveways.

I've been stung and its actually not bad at all, I actually think that smaller specimens like entypus have hurt more(could just be me). oh by the way this is definitely pepsis. The three species of Hemipepsis we have are all charcoal black. this has a metallic blue sheen like most pepsis.

Pepsis formosa?

I'm just takin' a stab here, but it looks like the Pepsis formosa that I've seen (not saying it couldn't be anything different).
