Bee - Megachile umbripennis - male

Bee - Megachile umbripennis - Male
Naples, Collier County, Florida, USA
November 7, 2012
This bee was collecting pollen on Peruvian Primrose (Ludwigia peruviana). It was approximately the size of a honeybee. Its thorax appeared to be much broader than the abdomen, although this appearance may be do to the thick hairs.

Same subgenus, different species
This is a male Megachile (Callomegachile) umbripennis Smith, 1853.

It's well established in Hawaii (so would have been nice to have Hawaiian images in the guide...) and has recently been found by several people in Florida, although the record remains unpublished in print.

Megachile umbripennis
Thank you so much for the identification.
