Spider wasp and burrow - Anoplius americanus - female

Spider wasp and burrow - Anoplius americanus - Female
San Joaquin Marsh, Irvine, Orange County, California, USA
July 24, 2013
Walking towards the bank of a creek, I entered a sandy area with low, sparse grass. There were many of these wasps patrolling the grass, while others, like this one, were on the ground. At first, I didn't see her burrow, but did seconds later when she interposed herself between it and me. She then did some strange business on the ground, as reflected in the subsequent images, presented in the order in which they took place.
