I didn't really want an ID on the moth, but wanted to know what causes the raw spot on it's back? I just had someone else ask me about this. This is the second time I've seen this, on different moths.

its nothing really
just the scales are worn off and the exoskeleton is showing..they are covered with scales which wear off the more they flyaround beating on stuff.
