Insect found outside on wood deck (under a barrel) at recently purchased home - Parcoblatta pennsylvanica
Eastgate, Clermont County, Ohio, USA
July 27, 2013
Size: 1 inch long, max
I find lots of these under a barrel previous owner left on wood deck of home recently purchased. They flea like cockroaches as soon as I lift up the barrel and go through gaps in deck back under the deck. Deck is only elevated a few inches off ground. Is this a cockroach? We see no evidence of cockroaches inside, but if these are cockroaches- I want to get this addressed ASAP. I left my grill cover on the deck floor last night and a bunch of them were under it when I picked it up this morning as well. Seem to like dark, wet locations.

Cockroach, yes.
Others may be able to tell you more. Most cockroaches are content to live outdoors, and have no interest in entering homes. Only a handful are considered pests.
