Size: 1" long
Found this bug in the river. When we picked it up it didn't move, so not sure if it was alive or if it lives in the water. Take note of the small wings on its back.

You have a dragonfly nymph. I do not have the expertise to identify species. Put back in water so one day you can see the dragonfly fly by.

Thank you for your quick reply! I had a hunch it might have been something similar, but our canoe party was curious because we had never seen anything like it. At least not in person. Thanks again for the help!

PS: We put it back in the water right after taking some pictures of it. Hopefully we will see it one day as I enjoy watching dragonflys zip around as they do.
