Really cool looking Ant -
Timulla vagans
-
Laurel County, Kentucky, USA
July 13, 2013
I am not a bug person so I have no idea about this image other than it is an ant. Curious though as to what it is.

This one belongs to the genus
This one belongs to the genus Timulla. It looks like it might be T. vagans due to the suture on the thorax, but I'll reserve that judgement until someone confirms it just in case.

Nice find!
Also, a very credible image for something so small and quick.

Not an ant but a "Velvet Ant," a kind of wasp. The females are wingless. Others should be able to take the ID further.
Welcome to BugGuide!
