S. callippe for sure
though pale spots below are rounder than average.
Not sure which subspecies fits this area best; perhaps ssp.
shasta
?

in the Trinities used to be considered
rupestris
(see
Shapiro et al. (1979, p. 95)
and
Hammond (1985, p. 207)
), but I'm not sure how the new northern California subspecies (
shasta
and
hagemani
) affected that. Time to track down a copy of
Systematics of Western North American Butterflies
