1st instar?
Now that I look at it, that does make sense. Needless to say, my caterpillar ID skills are pretty much non-existant. It was just so small I didn't even think of sphinx, since most of the ones I see are in the late stages of development when they are easier to spot. My guess is White-lined Sphinx, since that is our most common species around here and the caterpillars love to feed on the grape plants right out the back door. (This one was just inside the door.)
