Looking at the Desert Blonde Tarantula

Looking at the Desert Blonde Tarantula
I-19 Rest Area, Northbound, Arizona, USA
July 27, 2013
Joyce Gross, Aaron Schusteff and Alice Abela (and large spider). Yes, it was about 2 am when this photo was taken. Some people don't know when to call it a night ; )

Just another night out with the girls
Playing with tarantulas, fiddling with scorpions, wandering around at mid-night in parking lots of giant border-town truck stops searching for tigers, snakes, and bats...and generally keeping ourselves out of mischief until 2am and beyond :-)

Ha, ha -
I couldn't have kept that pace up for much longer, but I kept reminding myself " I can sleep when I get home"!

Did you see the special tiger Joyce found that night?
I think it's the smallest tiger beetle species north of Mexico. Rare in the US, barely makes it into Sonoran Desert portion of AZ:

Another from the same locale:

I missed this one.
Between the bats and the night hawks and the other beetles...
But with multiple records of this species in this spot over the years, it's a good one to look for in future there (I know I'll be back).
