Nice find! Eristalinus taeniops
One of my favorites.

A male, photographed outside the Duck Club.
Yours is a female.

Hey... I recognize those Duck Club flowers! I have recently become interested in native bees and other pollinators, and I've found the area near the Duck Club to be good hunting grounds. It was better last year before they cut the weeds! So dry this year, not many so far, and it looks like the milkweed won't feed many Monarch larva.

Thanks for the IDs.... you'll be hearing from me again.

A couple places for native bees:
Nix Nature Center, Laguna Beach. Sidewalk going from parking lot alongside and in front of the building. (Scraggly plants with small, quick bees.) Also bees and wasps on buckwheat in/around the parking lot, plus by the building at the start of the trail.

Bee bonanza! Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Claremont, about a 50-minute drive.

Thanks.... it supposedly will be sunny in the mornings next week and I'll drive down to Laguna.
