Last molt - Theridion pictum

Last molt - Theridion pictum
White Fox, Saskatchewan, Canada
July 24, 2013
In the morning I took a couple quick pictures of spiderlings dining on a spider.
After looking at the images I went back to see if I could identify the strange looking orb weaver.
Spiderlings had retreated for the night and been replaced by an adult.

Moved
Moved from Spiders. Very cool find.

Orbweaver prey
From the look of the carapace in this shot, seems like the poor orbweaver was just barely finished molting when it became prey (the carapace looks "fresh"/teneral). That's its old carapace that is stuck to the back of the abdomen and giving it a weird shape. I'd guess it's an Araneus gemmoides and the spider feeding on it is a Theridion.

fresh food
My guess as well, A. gemmoides and T. pictum. Not sure if there is a place for this in the guide, I just posted it because it's unusual.
