Crambidae: Herpetogramma abdominalis? - Herpetogramma

Crambidae: Herpetogramma abdominalis? - Herpetogramma
Turtle River State Park, Grand Forks County, North Dakota, USA
August 2, 2013
Size: Wingspread ~ 2 cm
Hmmm...my first thought was that specimen may be a worn example of Herpetogramma abdominalis (5276), but I think I may be wrong to think so. It may be another species in this genus, I think.

5280 – Herpetogramma aeglealis
I'm not sure how conclusive this is but the pale patch of fringe scales at the anal angle and the pale patch between the two median spots would make it H. aeglealis. These pale patches tend to stand out more than in other similar species.

Thanks, Steve!
Steve, thank you so much for taking a close look at this specimen! I don't see enough Herpetogramma to be able to distinguish the species which may be common in our area. The pale patches may just well be species-specific features of H. aeglealis. Thanks for your help and interest! --carl
