Bee like Robberfly - Mallophora bomboides

Bee like Robberfly - Mallophora bomboides
Clay County, Florida, USA
October 3, 2006
Size: 1 inch maybe longer
Nasty looking meany, any one know this one?

Thanks for the help!
Guys,

I knew this was something when it appeared, while chasing a Berry's Skipper which has always been a hard skipper to find.

Mallophora
Surely this must be Mallophora bomboides. Which I have never seen in real life or in a photo. Supposedly ranges into the December months in the SE. I never see Mallophora shots after August otherwise. Lovely shot. Size and the pale hairs on the terminal segments are enough to get you to this species in Florida.

Moved to new guide
Well, looks good enough to me--moved to a new guide page for the species.

Mallophora
Looks like a Mallophora. I saw on another image that the slim tips of the antennae differentiate Mallophora from Laphria.
