Red Dragonfly - Sympetrum obtrusum - male

Red Dragonfly - Sympetrum obtrusum - Male
Thompson Falls, Sanders County, Montana, USA
August 13, 2006

Moved
Moved from Meadowhawks.

ID
Looks like a White-Faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum obtrusum).

Yes,
but also looks like the Ruby Meadowhawk. I'm not sure how to tell the two apart....even with the female image added. (although, I am also leaning toward the White-faced)

ID
The Ruby Meadowhawk (Sympetrum rubicundum) is not listed as occurring in Montana in any of the references I have.

Thanks
that's good enough for me.
