Coscinoptera aeneipennis…
Stunning beetle. The range for the similar Coleothorpa dominicana apparently does not extend into California.

A night at the opera?
I simply love that dashing ebony cape! Nice find, Craig. I used to shoot much interesting stuff on the darker sections of that trail. Must go back!
