Anisota virginiensis (female)
Most likely candidate is Anisota virginiensis ssp. discolor - a TX variety of this common species. Refer to details below.

Anisotropic stigma
I found one of this type of moths on my front porch in PenderCounty in NC, is this common for our area?

We have several species of Anisota in NC
We have Anisota stigma, A. senatoria, A. virginiensis in NC.
Refer to the guides for details. The moth above is not A. stigma.

Anisota sp. (senatoria or virginiensis)
You have Anisota stigma, A. senatoria and A. virginiensis in e. TX.

However, the sparse irregular black flecks on the forewings makes me think A. senatoria (female) or A. virginiensis ssp. discolor. The females of both senatoria and virginiensis (VERY similar in color and appearance) usually have more purplish coloration and appear much less speckled, orangish & bulky than A. stigma. And yes...these can be hard to id.
