Ladybird, the party animal. Who are her friends? - Hyperaspis trifurcata
Santiago Oaks Park, Orange, Orange County, California, USA
October 5, 2006
Already identified in another post as hyperaspis, this ladybeetle lives on cactus amid cochineal. The beetle feeds on cochineal larvae, living in a small but complex environment which includes a fly (Leucopis sp.) that also feeds on the cochineal larvae, plus many small wasps that were seen in earlier posts.
