Sphingidae: Hyles euphorbiae - Hyles euphorbiae

Sphingidae: Hyles euphorbiae - Hyles euphorbiae
Emerado, Grand Forks County, North Dakota, USA
August 7, 2013
Size: Length ~ 4.5 cm
Eggs measure about 1.5-2.0 mm in size, and are very sticky. The mucoid coating dries fast and is a superb glue! It is quite difficult to dislodge an egg from a substrate once the mucous coating dries, and that takes but a couple of minutes. Shed scales from the abdominal terminus adhere to some of the eggs in this image.
