Walked through a field where there were 100's of these, never seen this many together in one place. Many males and a few females. also several male cow killer velvet ants in the same area

Eastern Cicada Killers…
The males are highly territorial and may mate with multiple females if given the chance. They will die soon after mating; the females after their eggs are laid.
