No Expert, But Agree..
"Most abundant blackish-brown skipper in the Houston area." (Tveten, 1996)

The 3 white forewing dots, the white under the antenna club, the lighter fringe and the slight violet shading on the hindwings are all in keeping with your id.

I use the Tvetens' Butterflies of Houston and Southeast Texas for id-ing. Great resource if you don't have it.

Agree with your ID - Lerema accius

This image looks very similar in my opinion.

I live in Fort Worth where L. accius is common.
Both the BofA image and the Longs image are rather atypical though.

Thanks for the help
Yes, I'd used Tveten to get this far. But my pic doesn't show the violet shading, and this is our first Clouded, so I wasn't sure if there was a similar skipper without the violet. Thanks for the help!

I'm no expert...
I just gave my opinion, so you might want to place the image in the Grass Skippers section until an expert can look at it and confirm.

Another possibility is to submit it to BAMONA here as a sighting. Experts verify the species and add it to their database.

Thanks, will do.
