Anthophora possibly with white face on penstemon - Anthophora bomboides
Rocky Mountain National Park, Larimer County, Colorado, USA
July 24, 2013
Size: BL ~ 15.5 mm
This white-faced bee has 3-cell venation with a short marginal cell that suggests genus Anthophora. It was seen on blossoms of Penstemon virgatus and then dropped to the ground. Any help with its ID is much appreciated.

Anthophora subgenus Melea
Thanks so much for this ID, Dr. Ascher. I am delighted to get the bee to subgenus. I see on BugGuide that there are only two species in this subgenus in the west. I will try to get the revision of the subgenus Melea and see what the differences are between the two species.
