Trying to complete my series comparing queen ants to their workers on white (ants from my yard, at least).
I had *finally* located an actual colony of these ants, I sometimes found them wandering around above ground but never knew where they came from. I carefully dug them up, following tunnels and chambers with literally a pair of tweezers because theyr'e so small. I collected any ants I found with a pooter until I finally located the queen, almost 6 inches beneath the surface. Of course a few weeks later they went on their mating flights all over my yard and I realized I totally didn't have to waste so many hours trying to dig them up.
