Either Speyeria zerene or. S. coronis - female
Difficult to be positive just seeing the upper side alone, but the proportions make me think more likely it is
S. zerene
. I don't know the specific location, and knowing elevation and habitat might help too (
S. coronis
tends to favor somewhat warmer places than
S. zerene
.)

Thanks.
Elevation was probably about 7500'. Habitat was oak and sage scrubland near a juniper forest.
