Ant or Wasp? - Pseudomyrmex pallidus

Ant or Wasp? - Pseudomyrmex pallidus
Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
October 7, 2006
Size: 7mm
These individuals were taken in a sweep net (actually two successive sweeps) in tall grass and brush. They appear to be ants (antenna shape and pedicel bumps) but I've heard of flightless wasps...

Moved from Pseudomyrmex.

please move to pallidus
Mississippi entomological seminole does not occur in sc.

pallidus
to my knowledge seminole does not occur in sc

Could be,
however the eyes on your specimens look a bit small compared to those of P. seminole. The UCD Entomology Website has some tedious-looking identification keys and lists some subtle features to examine when identifying the Pseudomyrmex ants, but I'd be totally stumped were I to try that! :-)

Ants.
