Antaeotricha

As far as I can tell there is no way to reliably differentiate A. schlaegeri from A. leucillana except for size, male genitalia, or DNA. There are many examples placed under both species with no size indicated. Some have size and seem to be misidentified. I guess they should all be moved to genus with a comment but I didn't want to do this without throwing this out to others in case I have this wrong or there is a better way to treat this. For more info see my comment on this submission here.

Sorry, we're not knowledgeable enough to know
if the two species can be separated or not. But wanted to say that we would prefer not seeing all the images moved to the genus page. We know this has been discussed before with other tough species pairs and some have been moved to genus while others have become No Taxon species pairs. Since we know that the images are one of two species, why not say that? Moving them to the genus page seems to indicate that we know nothing more than just the genus - unless you click on the image to read the comments. How much easier to make a no taxon page and put the comments and the images there. Plus dumping them on the genus page clutters the genus page for someone who would be looking for unknown images in that genus to identify. We know you did this for example with Halysidota, and of course you are free to do it again here. We have no authority to say otherwise. But right now there are 7 pages of images on the Halysidota genus page and there is no way to tell if any of them actually need help with IDs. As we say, we understand that others like moving species pair problems back to the genus page, but just wanted to say that it does not seem the best solution to us. Hope you get some comments on this from others who are more knowledgeable about moths than we. Thanks for working on these tough species pairs.

Follow Up
I apologize for not following up sooner and leaving the impression that I was working on this. The truth is that I could use further direction as this is more complicated than I at first thought.

There are 16 species listed by MPG in this genus of which 5 might need to be included in this group, lindseyi/leucillana/furcata/schlaegeri/manzanitae, and 6 more for which there are no photos. The ranges seem to overlap and the range schlaegeri overlaps the range of all the other species. I am not sure how to construct a group page or if one is even appropriate.

I agree
We use the No Taxon species pairs frequently and it is helpful.

size difference
http://bugguide.net/node/view/240507/bgimage shows a big size difference in male and female A. leucillana --assuming it is not an instance of a cross mating. I have not seen discussion of size difference between the sexes.

On the Genus page, the MIACY links to Internet discussion of the two species seem to be broken. Perhaps there was discussion there.

Links Fixed
I fixed the links but not sure they offer much more help.

Also, I agree, the size difference between male and female is important. It seems that you would need to know that to separate female leucillana from male schlaegeri as there appears to be overlap.
