Interesting
Looks like B. moerens Sharp, as illustrated in Van Tassell (1963). I haven't dug into the Berosus literature for quite some time, so I'm not sure whether that's a good name or not. There is a key in the paper below with illustrations for several related species.

Van Tassell, E. R. 1963. A new Berosus from Arizona, with a key to the Arizona species (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae). Coleopterists Bulletin 17(1):1-5.

B. moerens Sharp is still valid
Will look into the paper when dust settles. Thanks much!

Neat beetle
Neat beetle, whether it is that species or another. When I first saw the photo, I was hoping it might be Hemiosus, as I've yet to see one of those. I've done a lot of dip-netting in Cochise County, but not in Santa Cruz Co. I've always meant to check out Pena Blanca Lake. I may be down that way next month, so maybe I'll try my luck.

If you need a PDF of the Van Tassel paper, let me know.
