Noctuid - Apamea cogitata

Noctuid - Apamea cogitata
Sitka County, Alaska, USA
August 13, 2013
These seem to be fairly common around here, but I've not figured out what they are yet.

Size?
Except now that I'm looking at the PacNW Moths site, I see the size of A. cogitata forewing is 18-20 mm, while A. scoparia is 20-24mm. The squares in this photo are 5mm each, so it appears this moth might have a forewing larger than 20mm (though I'm not exactly sure how to measure it). The reniform spot seems better for A. apamea, so I'll leave it here.

Moved from Owlet Moths.

seems like a good match
and it's a species known from my region. Thanks!
