Osmia in August - Osmia - female

Osmia in August - Osmia - Female
Cascade Lodge, Cook County, Minnesota, USA
August 14, 2013
While visiting Lake Superior in August, I was shocked to find several Osmia still out foraging. Most of the other records of Osmia in August on BugGuide are from high elevations. I can only assume that the cold spring this year, perhaps augmented by the lake effect, delayed their normal emergence. This female was foraging on *Lotus corniculatus* right outside my cabin in the morning. Parallel mandibular carinae are clearly visible in this photo.
