Amblypsilopus species - Amblypsilopus scintillans - male

Amblypsilopus species - Amblypsilopus scintillans - Male
Loves Park backyard near Rock Cut Park, Winnegabo County, Illinois, USA
August 17, 2013
Size: 4.5mm
I believe this is of the Amblypsilopus genus. Not the A. variegatus that I see in the Nicholas Conservatory by the river. This fly is native to my backyard. I suspect many small dolis that I have previously identified as Condylostylus caudatus may actually be this species. The long hairs on the wing's leading edge are the main clue.

Probably Amblypsilopus scintillans
First impression, Amblypsilopus scintillans, which has black antennae. I will check later.

Help with ID
Your help is appreciated. I have studio photos of a male specimen with details of the head, wings, legs and genitalia if needed.

These are abundant in my yard this year. I am enjoying a year with more normal rainfall.

Kind regards,

Keith
