Basin butterfly 5 - Speyeria mormonia - Male Female
Great Basin National Park, White Pine County, Nevada, USA
August 14, 2013
Near 8,500 feet. The large one was pursuing the small one.

Mormon Fritillary pair
Male is on the right; female is missing a lot of her wings.

Moved from Butterflies (excluding skippers).

Nearby
Within a mile or so of the other Speyeria. Is more than one species found at the same location?

It is often possible to find several in the same place and time.
S. mormonia tends to be the one found at the highest elevations, but it overlaps with several others below. It is also the smallest, and one of the most easily recognized species when several are found together.
