Selenophorus opalinus
is my image-based identification from large size and the elytra blackish with likely iridescence as suggested by the photo.

Definitely Selenophorus
based on the combination of harpaline habitus AND at least two visible series of strial punctures atop each elytron. Furthermore, the shiny dorsum (probably iridescent) and the apparent relatively "large" size suggest
S. opalinus
as a good starting point among a few choices.
Many regular BugGuiders still do not routinely provide measured body lengths (mm) with their excellent photo submissions. Those omissions are a source of continous frustration for experts who wish to give accurate identifications.
P.S. Sorry I didn't see "~14 mm" posted on the second related photo. Is there an automatic way to duplicate body length on all the photos in a related set?

Size was an afterthought
Peter,
Sorry about that. At 4:30 this morning, it seemed like another
Harpalus
... posting too late is never a good idea, considering this beetle is twice the size of
Notiobia
. Mike Quinn found this
Selenophorus
last August
