Jack-O-Lantern - Phidippus regius

Jack-O-Lantern - Phidippus regius
Ocala, Marion County, Florida, USA
October 11, 2006
Size: 22mm
Markings on the back look like a Jack-O-Lantern to me. Can someone tell me a sure way to identify sex on these beauties? I'm guessing female, but I'm basing that on size.

Correct
This is an adult female. The males are almost always black with white markings. You can click on the "Info" link above to go to the Info page. Then click on the link under "internet references" to read an informative article on this species. You will read that the males are "always black", but if you look through the images here on the guide, you will see that males are sometimes other colors. These are rare specimens however. Also, you can look at the palps of the spiders to sex them. The males have their copulatory organs at the ends of their palps.
