Dagger? - Acronicta retardata

Dagger? - Acronicta retardata
Deer Creek, Harford County, Maryland, USA
August 18, 2013
Size: around 1"
Found this little guy curled and dormant.
My first thought was an early instar A. retardate, but my research here at B.G., and in Wagner's Guide, indicates only maple as the host tree for that species.
I found other, more typical Retarded Daggers on the same species of tree....which does not appear to be maple.
(Since I'm no tree expert, I've included a shot of the leaves.)

Moved
Moved from Dagger Moths.

Tree is one of the weedier maples
Box Elder, Acer negundo

Thanks
Thanks for resolving my tree mystery.
I did not realize that box elder and maple were related.
