Common on flowers at present. Looks like Eristalis in these pages - what do you think?

Wonderful image, Hannah! Actually, this is in the same subfamily as Eristalis, but it is a different genus. Completely forgot the name, of course....:-)

...it's a cool-looking little fly. maybe it's a female? This could be a Palpada sp. see our conversation here:
