Chlamisinae
This is in the tribe Chlamisini of Cryptocephalinae. But as you recognised it as a chrysomelid yourselve, you probably knew this..probably genus Neochlamisus

Thanks for narrowing it down. Will try to get it down further.

Edit: Following Downie & Arnett, it is Exema canadensis. Its size, lack of yellow spot in emargination of eye, and having the elytral suture completely serrate point to the genus Exema.
E. canadensis has black to slightly metallic cuticle (not yellow), rugose pronotum, pronotum entirely black, and emargination of eye black.
