Can anyone help identify this bug? - Anisomorpha buprestoides
Kissimmee, FL, Osceola County, Florida, USA
October 6, 2006
Size: 5 inches perhaps
This 5 inch or so long bug was vertical on the screen to my pool area. I gently removed it figuring I'd take a closer look and when done I relocated to the front of my home in the bushes but it found its way to the side of the home which it seemed to prefer. It has a "baby" on its back, though for all I know it's mating. The version on its back is much smaller. It seemed pretty friendly, not all that afraid of being held.

Yes, male and female
Anisomorpha buprestoides - Two-striped Walkingstick, images in the guide here. Be careful with them. Read this forum topic, and Eric's comment here.
