Mating Tiny Checkerspots - Microtia dymas - male - female

Mating Tiny Checkerspots - Microtia dymas - Male Female
Montosa Canyon Road, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
July 26, 2013
This is the same mating pair photographed moments earlier by John Balaban, around noon of the 2nd day of the AZ BugGuide gathering:

John Schneider photographed one a bit earlier...it may have been one of these two, or a different individual:

Glassberg(1) lists this as Dymasia dymas, and the "Butterflies of America" web site lists it as Dymasia dymas chara. As described on the BugGuide Microtia info page, Dymasia was merged with Microtia in the 2000 Ph.D. dissertation by H. L. Kons.
