Red-spotted Rove Beetle - Platydracus fossator

Red-spotted Rove Beetle - Platydracus fossator
Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada
August 25, 2013
Size: 2cm
This beetle has been hanging around my deck for several weeks (and last year, too). I had assumed it was a Blue Mud Dauber wasp until I sent the image in to Birding NB, where it was identified as this rove beetle! I gather the orange spots on the elytra are diagnostic.
