The Hidden(Coneheaded Grasshopper) - Neoconocephalus retusus - Female
South Carolina, USA
I'm fairly certain this is an adult female conehead, but better safe than sorry. Took this picture in my backyard, gives you a very good idea of how effective its camoflauge really is.

Moved
Moved from Common Coneheads.

Yes!
Yes, the camouflage IS very good; and yes, it is a female conehead, perhaps N. retusus, as in that species the ovipositor exceeds the length of the folded wings when the insect is at rest.

Round-tipped Conehead
This is a Round-tipped Conehead (Neoconocephalus retusus ) indeed. No other species that has an ovipositor extending past the wing is found near the area this individual was photographed. Coneheads are a truly fascinating group of insects.
