All things have a purpose in
All things have a purpose in the realm of life. It is hard to understand what good pests do to humans and the things humans love like living forests. Here in the SW we are in an extreme drought situation making the forests unable to ward off insects. I cut down a fairly healthy pinon as a precaution for fire. I brought it home for firewood and noticed it was covered by thousands of bark beetles. It is just a question of time when this healthy looking forest will succumb to insect infestations like the region I live in. I know they do thin the forests but I'm too old to want to see millions of trees wiped out for generations to come, not to mention the forest fires that follow. You could say mosquitos thin the human population which can have good effects for 0 population growth.

Borers help begin the breakdo
Borers help begin the breakdown process of dead and dying trees. Without borers in the world performing this service you might find your fire risk much higher. You'd be better off blaming the drought.

Well, I stil don't like them.
Well, I stil don't like them. As I said, all things have a purpose, some I don't want to experience at this time. I would not like a mosquito bit where I've never seen one so there may be more.
