Looks like the male
of L. hesperus. Males of the non-native L. geometricus are smaller and generally darker. By posting this you just reminded me that I had a photo from my house. Just posted:


But do check with 'widowman' - oy veh, names young people chose nowadays, my grandmother might have said.

Or you might run this by Rick Vetter, UC Riverside. If you find any of the Brown widows, I think he's still looking for live specimens. Plenty of L. geometricus at the museum gardens.
