Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010) included ten species of the genus
Hydraecia in America north of Mexico.

The forewing length is 16-24 mm
Range
Crabo, et al (2013) reported the range to include British Columbia to California, and stated the inland to Colorado population is another distinct species.

The adults appear to be most common in the months of July to October.
