Anisota peigleri caterpillar? - Anisota peigleri

Anisota peigleri caterpillar? - Anisota peigleri
Sugar Hill, Gwinnett County, Georgia, USA
August 28, 2013

Moved- Yes, Anisota peigleri
Moved from ID Request.

Anisota senatoria and A. peigleri are very similar, both as larvae and as adults. As of right now I think there is still some confusion as to whether or not A. peigleri represents a full species or a clinal variation of the widespread A. senatoria.

I have been moving many of the larval images previously assigned to A. senatoria to the A. peigleri page based on locale and larval characteristics. A. peigleri larvae generally have more pronounced scoli, as evident in your photo.

Thanks, Ryan ...
Jennifer says they are crawling all over her workplace in Sugar Hill.
