Heterocerus brunneus - Heterocerus parrotus - Male
Chandler, Murray County, Minnesota, USA
June 20, 2006
Size: 5.5mm
Found this little guy amoungst a huge array of insects near a friend's yard light. Definately a Mud-loving Beetle, and Heterocerus brunneus is the only one listed in Minnesota.

Moved from Heterocerus.

Heterocerus no longer applies to N. A. fauna.
Ref. American Beetles and ITIS site. I'm moving these to family level.

Heterocerus parrotus
It's so dark that I'd guess it was H. parrotus. This species is common in your area. I'd love a few in 95% ethanol is you ever get a chance. _ Jonas
